Puppet Show on WEDU
Don’t miss the Operation PAR Just Say No Show that will
be televised once again on WEDU-TV on April 30th at 8:30 a.m. Special thanks to
the Primary Prevention Puppet Show staff for making this dream a reality! Additionally,
in January, the puppeteers exhibited a display of puppets and substance abuse
prevention messages at the IMAX Theatre at Channelside. The Just Say No Show will
continue to be shown in the theatre. All of these activities are a part of the Keep
Kids Drug Free Multi-Media project in partnership with WEDU-TV and the Hillsborough
County Anti-Drug Alliance.

New Reporting Option for Private Providers
For Fiscal Year 2003-2004 the Department of Children and Families’ Substance
Abuse Program Office has developed an alternative format for data reporting
for state-licensed, private providers who are not under contract with the
Department. This new format is designed to reduce the amount of time and

system.

Congratulations to a tremendous Florida Prevention Leader - Daphne
Miller
Congratulations to Daphne Miller and her effective leadership. Daphne
Miller will be recognized as a leader in Florida's right to prevent substance
abuse and will be included in the Florida Leadership Directory for Substance
Abuse Prevention. This directory is being published as a part of the 2003
Statewide Prevention Conference. The theme this year is "Accelerating
Progress Through Leadership." This directory allows us to recognize the
bounty of leadership we have in Florida and to encourage others to take
responsibility for their local communities. Additionally, Daphne has been
invited to a special reception, hosted by Jim McDonough, director of the
Governor's office of Drug Control, to honor her accomplishments in designing
effective Operation PAR prevention services.

"Substance abuse drops significantly for the forth year in a row"
You are to be congratulated
for gaining significant successes in lowering substance abuse rates among
Florida’s sixth through twelfth graders. The overwhelmingly downward trends in
drug and tobacco use are now into their fourth consecutive year. Alcohol use,
while stubbornly high, also shows signs of moving down. Of twenty-one measured
drugs, sixteen went down and two stayed even. Only three went up-hallucinogenic
mushrooms, GHB, and depressants. Some highlights of the survey’s findings
include the following:
